Interior design: Hospitality, foodservice and leisure sectors.

The Feature Interiors approach to the Design process:

Research and appraisal: To ensure we proceed in the right direction it is very important that we evaluate any research or indeed confirm via our own research the needs and objectives of the project.

Formulation of design brief: We will compile a detailed design brief stipulating key requirements and objectives that the project is to acheive. This enables our performance to be benchmarked and provides a point of reference for both parties throughout the project, and maintains a focus in the design process. At this point we will advise if appropriate of any obligations under (CDM) Construction Design Management 2007.

Conceptual space planning: From the brief we proceed with spatial planning producing a workable layout in line with operational requirements, health and safety, disabled access requirements and fire strategies. We work from back of house to front of house if required and designate fixtures, fittings, equipments and prominent design features and seating in line with the number of covers required.

Identification of requirements for external consultants would take place at this point to enable any relevant expertise to be factored into the project.

Conceptual interior design development (and Branding if required): You need to be able to visualise our proposals so using 3D visualisation techniques we develop the scheme, and compile detailed visuals along with presentation mood boards with proposed finishes to all internal elements. We have a great knowledge and understanding of applicable contract grade finishes to ensure durability and conformability.

We would submit information at this point for initial statutory permissions if required.

Detail design development:  Ensuring the conceptual integrity is maintained the design is developed and detailed and all relevant design drawings are produced to include those listed opposite. Detailed lighting and mechanical / electrical drawings would depend upon project scale and complexity. We would advise on appointment of a mechanical & electrical consultant on a per project basis at the design brief stage.

Drawings are submitted to building control for approval if required at this stage. If we are commissioned to produce branding material we would submit final proofs at this point.

Scope of works and bespoke fittings specifications: Ensuring the project integrity and a quality end product is our ultimate goal. We produce the relevant specification documents to ensure that design intent is preserved in the end product.

Compilation of tender documentation: All specifications and design drawings are compiled into a “tender pack” to enable tender(s) to be obtained for the project. Upon return a tender appraisal is undertaken with an evaluation report submitted. Procurement routes are outlined to include speciality items.

Design project management: Acting as lead consultant Feature Interiors can oversee the mobilisation and construction phases of the project, issuing and reviewing information to and from the contractor and specialist consultants, ensuring a smooth interface between all parties involved. Post practical completion defects would then be notified and snagging reports drawn up and issued to the contractor. Finally we would advise of all relevant certificates required.

Feature Interiors is not a design and build company and as such we have no bias on suppliers, materials, finishes or methods of construction. We approach every project from a design perspective and can act as a lead consultant if required to oversee the administration of the building contract that may have been appointed by tender or as designated by our client.
